Betting Preview: ITV Racing Newbury & Ayr 19/09/2020

ITV Horse Racing betting Preview - 19th September 2020The ITV cameras move onto Newbury and Ayr this weekend after an exciting week at Doncaster. The flat racing season may be winding down now, with the jumps season hitting its stride in October, but there will still be a couple of group races to enjoy on Saturday afternoon.

Newbury 15:25

Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes (Group 2)

The Mill Reef Stakes is the only Group 2 action to be taking place at Newbury on Saturday afternoon. This race is open to two-year-old and is run over six furlongs. The most successful horse to win this race was Mon Fils, who went on to win the 2,000 Guineas the following season. Pierre Lapin, Ribchester and Harry Angel have all won this race over recent seasons.

Rhythm Master leads the betting after impressive showings so far this season for trainer Richard Fahey. However, the two-year-old comes into this race having come third last time out at Deauville in the Group 1 Darley Prix Morny. There will be interest in Bahrain Pride and Fivethousandtoone for this race. The latter of which responded from a second-placed finish at Windsor to win the EBF Novice Stakes at Newcastle last time out. However, Bahrain Pride will be the preference as the two-year-old has won both starts this season. James Doyle has also won this race in the past.

Newbury 14:50

Dubai Duty Free Legacy Cup Stakes (Group 3)

The Legacy Cup is the other standout race on the card at Newbury, with this Group 3 race being open to horses that are aged three and over. It is run over one mile and three furlongs and was previous called the Arc Trial. Notable winners of the race include Compton Bolter, Blue Monday and Desert Encounter.

The latter of those will be looking for a history-making fourth win in this race. However, the form of the David Simcock horse will not be capturing the imagination. Regardless, the eight-year-olds record here means that it should be taken seriously. Addeybb is rightly among the favourites for trainer William Haggas, as the six-year-old has won two of his last three starts. However, the preference for the Legacy Cup is Extra Elusive. Hollie Doyle has enjoyed an excellent season to this point, and this five-year-old has won his last two starts. These two wins came at Haydock in the BetVictor Rose of Lancaster Stakes in August, and then the Gallagher Group Winter Hill Stakes at Windsor. This could be a third winner in the race for trainer Roger Charlton.

Ayr 15:05

Scotty Brand Firth Of Clyde Fillies’ Stakes (Group 3)

There will also be Group action at Ayr, as the Scotty Brand Firth Of Clyde Fillies’ Stakes will be run. The race is open to fillies aged two and is ran over six furlongs. It has been a Group 3 race since being promoted in 2004, which means that it is the only Group race of the flat season in Scotland. Recent winners of the race include Rose of Kildare and Queen of Bermuda.

There are a number of horses that could realistically challenge for success in this race, with Lullaby Moon, Mamba Wamba and Perfect Times all winning last time out. The size of the field means that there could be each-way value for gamblers, with Little Rollright being a great choice. The preference for the winner is Lullaby Moon, who has won on two from three starts this season. The last of her victories came at Goodwood in the EBF Fillies’ Novice Auction Stakes.
