William Hill bet calculator: how to use it, with each way and Lucky 15

William Hill’s bet calculator is free to use on its website, and you don’t need an account. Pick one of 15 bet types, choose each way and an odds format, add any dead heat or Rule 4, then enter your odds and results. It shows your total stake, return and profit.

William Hill calls it a “Free Bet Calculator”, but that means free to use. It can’t take a free bet stake out of your return, and it doesn’t add William Hill’s Lucky 15, Lucky 31 or Lucky 63 bonuses. It also has no result for a void selection or a non-runner. For free bets, Lucky bonuses and void selections on straight multiples, you can adjust its figure yourself with the rules below.

Every rule below is William Hill’s, from its calculator page and help centre as they stood on 2 October 2026.

How to use the William Hill bet calculator

  1. Open the calculator at news.williamhill.com/bet-calculator. Each bet type also has its own calculator page there.
  2. Choose your bet type.
  3. Set Each Way to Yes or No, and pick the odds format: fraction, decimal or American.
  4. Under Options, choose Dead Heat or Rule 4 if either applies.
  5. For each selection, enter the odds and choose Win, Lose or Placed. You can add a note to each one.
  6. Enter your stake, as a total stake or a stake per bet, and calculate.

The results show Total Stake, Return and Profit, and the Bet Breakdown lists each part of the bet with how many won, placed and lost. You can add rows on a single, double, treble or accumulator. System bets such as the Yankee have a fixed number of rows.

To see it in action, put in a £1 Yankee with four winners at 2/1. It costs £11, and the calculator shows a £243 return and £232 profit, which matches the sum done by hand.

William Hill each way bet calculator

An each way bet on a horse race is two equal stakes, one on your horse to win and one on it to be placed, so a £5 each way bet costs £10. When you set Each Way to Yes, the calculator adds a place fraction to each selection, from 1/6 to 1/1, starting at 1/5.

Set the fraction to the race’s place terms. William Hill settles UK and Irish races on these industry standard terms, unless it has special place terms on the race when you bet:

Race Runners Place terms Places paid
Non-handicap 5 to 7 1/4 odds 1st and 2nd
Non-handicap 8 or more 1/5 odds 1st, 2nd and 3rd
Handicap 12 to 15 1/4 odds 1st, 2nd and 3rd
Handicap 16 or more 1/4 odds 1st to 4th

So a £5 each way bet, £10 in total, on a 4/1 winner in a non-handicap with six runners returns £35.

William Hill Lucky 15 bet calculator: Lucky 15, 31 and 63

The calculator has all three Lucky bets, but it doesn’t add the bonuses William Hill pays on them. Each one includes singles, so a single winner still returns something on its single.

Bet Selections Bets William Hill bonus
Lucky 15 4 15: 4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles and a four fold One winner only: double the odds on it. All 4 win: 10% added to total returns
Lucky 31 5 31 All 5 win: 20% added to total returns
Lucky 63 6 63 5 winners: 10% added to total returns. All 6 win: 25%

The bonuses only apply when every selection is a horse or greyhound at Starting Price, or a Show Price or Early Bird Price where those apply. The bet must also be at level unit stakes, and all selections must run. On an each way bet, the consolation applies only to the win part.

So if all four selections in a Lucky 15 win, add 10% to the calculator’s return. If only one wins, work that single out again at double its odds.

Dead heat and Rule 4

Dead heat

When selections tie, the stake is divided by the number tied, and the full odds are paid on the divided stake, with the rest of the stake lost. Take £10 on a horse at 10/1, which would return £110 if it won outright. In a two way dead heat you get half the stake at the original price, so £5 at 10/1 returns £55. In the calculator, choose how many tied, from 2 to 5. Dead heats happen in other sports too, and often in golf.

Rule 4

When a horse is withdrawn after the final declarations and before coming under starter’s orders, a deduction comes off your winnings, not your stake. A winning £20 bet at 7/4 with a Rule 4 of 20p returns £48, for example. The deduction in pence in the pound is the percentage of winnings taken, so enter 20p as 20 in the calculator.

The other Rule 4 rules:

  • no deduction is made for a withdrawn horse priced bigger than 14/1
  • a total deduction of 5p in the pound is waived
  • when two or more horses are withdrawn, the total deduction can’t be more than 90p in the pound
  • Rule 4 doesn’t apply to ante post bets

The multiple bets it covers

Bet Selections Number of bets
Single 1 1
Double 2 1
Treble 3 1
Accumulator 4 or more 1
Trixie 3 4: 3 doubles and a treble
Patent 3 7: 3 singles, 3 doubles and a treble
Yankee 4 11: 6 doubles, 4 trebles and a four fold
Canadian (Super Yankee) 5 26: 10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 four folds and a five fold
Heinz 6 57
Super Heinz 7 120
Goliath 8 247

Is it a free bet calculator?

Only in the sense that it’s free. When you bet with a free bet, the stake isn’t returned with any winnings, and the calculator has no setting for that. William Hill’s help centre says to deduct the value of the free bet from the estimated return on your bet slip, and the same works for the calculator’s figure.

William Hill bet calculator FAQ

How do I check my bets on William Hill?

Tap My Bets in the app or on the website. Cashed out bets are also listed in Account History, under My Transactions.

Can I use it for football or golf?

Yes. William Hill describes it as a calculator for all types of bet, you enter your own odds and results, and it has a Golf Dead Heat bet type.

What if one of my selections is void?

The calculator only offers win, lose or placed. On a straight multiple, William Hill’s rules drop the bet down a level, so a four fold becomes a treble: remove the void selection and work it out as the smaller bet. On a full cover bet such as a Yankee or Lucky 15, the calculator can’t model a void selection.

Is the calculator’s figure what I’ll be paid?

Treat it as a guide. William Hill says the estimated return on its own bet slip “is a rough guide for the amount of winnings which will be paid out if your selection/s are winners”. Your bet is settled under William Hill’s rules, including any Rule 4, dead heat or bonus.
