How we check and order these offers

We run checks for each of the offers against what’s currently available from the betting app. Offers we can’t varify or haven’t checked in a while will drop off the list until we check them again. One of the reasons we look at how easy or fair the terms are is to give you the most straightforward list of for the biggest betting apps. That is also why offers that mix sports and casino rewards, ask you to wager a sports bonus before you can withdraw, or has no published terms are left out..

The focus is on the offer and it’s terms, not the size of the offer. Each offer gets points for how easy the qualifying bet is (the minimum odds, the stake and if it limits the sports allowed), how freely you can use the free bets (as singles, Bet Builders, accas or set markets etc.), how long you have to qualify and to use them, and how many payment rules, codes or extra steps are invloved.

Offers from apps that score 7 out of 10 or more in our app reviews get one of three bands from those points: Easy terms, Fair terms or Tighter terms. Offers from apps that got a rating of under 7 are listed under lower checked offers, in the same order but without a rating. Lastly, Exchange offers are listed on their own because they don’t work like free bets. We do earn commission from some of these operators, but it doesn’t change the order.

What is a free bet?

A free bet is a stake that bookies give you, usually after you’ve deposited and place a qualifying bet with your own money. You keep the winnings of the bet you place with it, but not the initial stake. Always check the terms, most come with at least minimum odds and expiry dates conditions. If the free bet offer is your main reason for signing up, I would go for the offer with the simplest and least restrictive terms over the amount offered.

Free bets on betting apps

Free bet offers appear in a few different ways in betting apps, usually during the the signup screen process. When I signed up to Sky Bet, the free bet offer appeared in the app just after I confirmed the signup details. The free bet offer appeared on the next screen and asked if I wanted to opt in with a promo code already applied. Once I placed the qualifying bet, the free bets appeared as “Free Bets: £30.00” under my account balance and in the “My Rewards” section.

Using the free bet obviously differs between bookies, but on Sky Bet you just add a bet to the betslip as usaul but you select a little “gift” icon instad of entering a stake, and you can select the free bet you want to apply. Once selected it tells you that the free bet is included in the stake and you can place the bet. On Skybet the free bet offer is 3 x £10 so you just select a £10 free bet and it gets applied.

How to claim a sign up offer

  1. Read the terms first

    Check the qualifying bet, the minimum odds, the payment methods that count and when the free bets expire. Each card on this page shows the terms in full.

  2. Open an account with the operator

    Use the Visit button or the operator's own app. If the offer needs a promo code, the card shows it; enter it when you sign up. You must be 18 or over, and the operator will check your age and identity.

  3. Set a deposit limit

    UK-licensed operators must let you set deposit limits, take a time-out or self-exclude. Set a limit before your first deposit.

  4. Deposit and place the qualifying bet

The terms that change what an offer is worth

Qualifying bet
The bet you place with your own money to unlock the offer. The terms set its minimum stake, its minimum odds and how long you have to place it.
Minimum odds
The shortest price a qualifying bet, or a free bet, can be placed at. 1/2 is 1.5 in decimal odds and evens is 2.0. A bet at shorter odds does not count.
Stake not returned
When a free bet wins, you get the winnings but not the free bet stake. A £10 free bet at 3.0 returns £20, not £30.
Bet Credits
bet365's name for the free bets in its offer. They are used like free bets, and the Bet Credits stake is not included in returns.
Expiry
How long the free bets last once they are credited. Free bets that are not used in time are removed from your account.
Payment exclusions
Payment methods that don't count for the offer. Many offers exclude e-wallets such as PayPal, Skrill and Neteller, and prepaid cards, so a deposit made that way won't qualify.
Bet Builder and acca free bets
Some offers pay part or all of the reward as free bets for Bet Builders or accumulators only, often with a minimum number of selections. Every selection has to win, so these land less often than a single.
One offer per household
Most sign up offers are limited to one per person, household, address, device or IP address, and people who have held an account before are usually excluded.

Free bet questions

How do free bets work?

You place a qualifying bet with your own money, and the bookmaker credits free bets as its terms describe, usually once that bet settles. You then use the free bets within the expiry period, at or above any minimum odds. If a free bet wins, you keep the winnings but not the free bet stake. Each card on this page shows that offer's own terms.

Can you withdraw a free bet?

No. A free bet can only be used as a stake. If it wins, the winnings (without the free bet stake) are paid to your cash balance, and the operator's own terms decide when they can be withdrawn.

Is a free bet the same as Bet Credits?

Bet Credits are bet365's name for the free bets in its offer. They are used in the same way, and the Bet Credits stake is not included in your returns.

Do I need a promo code?

Only for some offers. Where an offer needs a code, its card shows it, and the No code needed filter hides those offers. Enter the code exactly as shown when you sign up or deposit.

Can I use PayPal or another e-wallet to qualify?

Often not. Many offers on this page exclude e-wallets such as PayPal, Skrill and Neteller, and some accept only a debit card, Apple Pay or a bank transfer. Check the payment rules on each card before you deposit.

Can you make money from free bets?
